City of London Academy
Project: New Sixth Form Centre
Client: City of London Academy
Location: Southwark
The City of London Academy’s roll was increasing to the extent the existing building and site in Southwark would be unable to accommodate the learning requirements of the student population. BHM were first engaged to undertake the academy’s space audit and gap analysis as part of the emerging development plan. These suggested creating a local satellite facility for the sixth form centre as offering the best value solution.
A local development opportunity was identified, on the lower floors of a new mixed-use development on a former scrapyard 500m away from the academy’s original site.
The shell-and-core of the building was provided by the developer, and BHM Architects were appointed to provide the fit-out of c. 2,500m2 open-plan floorspace, creating flexible activity-based learning and resource spaces over three levels, for up to 300 students.
