Durston House School
Project: Competition Entry, New Purpose-Built School
Location: Ealing, London
This competition entry for a new purpose-built school sought to consolidate the existing school buildings on two separate sites. The design’s domestic arrangement and diminutive scale reflect the residential area in which the site sits. It also makes use of passive ventilation and daylight from the glazed atriums between ‘houses’ and rainwater harvesting from the green roofs.
Security is maximised by opening up vistas - increasing natural surveillance, and separating spaces to be used only by the School and those also used by the public.
