The new pavilion was designed to expand the School’s music and performance facilities. It contains a music technology and teaching classroom, secure instrument storage, a performance space, peripatetic rooms for visiting tutors and a recording room/office.

The building is designed to attenuate airborne sound, minimising disturbance to neighbouring properties. Situated opposite the Grade II Listed Castle Building, the single storey pavilion is designed to complement its Victorian Gothic style as well as BHM’s contemporary neighbouring Budgell Building.
