The new pavilion was designed to expand the School’s music and performance facilities. It contains a music technology and teaching classroom, secure instrument storage, a performance space, peripatetic rooms for visiting tutors and a recording room/office.

The building is designed to attenuate airborne sound, minimising disturbance to neighbouring properties. Situated opposite the Grade II Listed Castle Building, the single-storey pavilion is designed to complement its Victorian Gothic style as well as BHM’s contemporary neighbouring Budgell Building.
