Kew House School
Project: New Secondary School
Client: Gardener Schools
Location: Kew, London
This project converted an existing 1980s office block into a secondary school. As another example of a tight urban plot, BHM Architects made the most of the available space surrounding the office with a covered games area, garden and a multi-use sports pitch.
The work involved the alteration and refurbishment of the interior. The electrical and mechanical services were replaced to bring the building up to current building regulation standards. A new fire escape stair was constructed to improve fire safety
The new classrooms, laboratories, and design technology workshops had a colourful contemporary design. The School included a new cafe, dining hall and kitchens. There is a basement car park for staff and visitors.
